This is my Toyota Matrix XRS....it’s loud, rattles, and has great speakers for NPR.

A GoPro housing was put on this car a few months ago. That hasn’t been stolen (yet). This car was bought from curbstoners.

This car’s interior is terribly modular. You can stuff all kind of things (I strangely have a bike cassette tool in the back) and it’s still clean. You can shove a small fridge in the back. Everything is semi hard plastic.

It has variable sound insulation, as the sound levels of the exhaust depend where you sit. The back seats cannot hear the front seats, vice versa in the driver seat.

6 track yo!

This has lift. Lift is fun but you realize gas is also really expensive. It corners.

Also dirt handbrake turns are suprisingly easy, especially when the car weighs ~2660 lb (at weigh station). Asphalt not so much, as it makes flat spots.

And before all of this was my beloved Infiniti QX4. 6 track, Bose, massively plushy seats, a engine that whined, and dirt lot donut/drift capibility. And plus it has a pretty good AWD system.

Sigh, back to AP Stat

Kia Forte sedan, lowered on 17” wheels with super high performance summer tires that did nothing but cost it 4 mpg.

Oh yeah, they gripped, way more grip than a 156 hp FWD sedan needed

NPR FTW! I can tell if I’m going to be early to work or cutting it close depending on where I’m at when 90 Second Naturalist comes on at 8:43 a.m.

I enjoy the quick news before/after school and Steve Maddingly’s voice about the financials. I usually count by those. And NPR ironically is my time source, as they have time updates all the time and both my watch and clock is fast.

That’s a great high school car. The XRS’s are little firecrackers. I’d love to have one as a daily.

They’re firecrackers all right:with a tricky clutch, rough gears, and an engine that screams to redline

2ZZ in an MR2 is a recipe for a good time as well.

2ZZ with a more free flowing head and a super high flow intake manifold would work on a MR2. Not any normal 2ZZ

I’ve driven a 2ZZ swap MK1 and had friends with 2ZZ swapped Spyders. All were an absolute blast.

Nice car! I really like the Matrix XRS/Vibe GT and want to get one as my next car when I can. How has it been in terms of reliability? Did you hit 299999 yet?

Nope, not yet near the mileage near. A little word of warning is that the clutch is one tricky motherfucker. Rev matching is needed for downshifts. I’ve gotten one check engine light due to me not clearing a oil change code, and currently have a light due to an idle component. Doesn’t affect anything at all. Currently, this is a very reliable car. Interior rattles a bit when idling on a cold day. Uses a GM truck radio harness weirdly. But pulls nicely.

Glad to hear it’s been good to you. Once it gets to 299999 it will stop right there. It won’t roll over to zero, but rather stay at 299999. It happens to every 2003-2008 Corolla, Matrix, and Vibe, and there is still no fix. At least it’s 300k miles for us, but in Canada, it’s 299999 km! How many miles on yours?

Yeah, the GM radio is shared with the Vibe as well, but the 05+ Matrix switched back to a Toyota radio (but the Vibe kept the GM radio). Do you have the 6-CD changer?

I have the 6 CD changer GPS module. It has funky functions like a calendar but has a suprisingly working GPS when it doesn't make intolerable ticking sounds. It’s really nice in the day...but I'm going to replace it with a tablet/single DIN setup.
